The TMPO team, together with representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, met with partners from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to discuss the progress of Sweden-funded cybersecurity projects in Ukraine.
Sweden is one of Ukraine’s reliable partners within the Tallinn Mechanism. The country has allocated around SEK 135 million (approximately UAH 593 million) for cybersecurity projects in Ukraine. The projects are implemented with the involvement of Sida and ESTDEV.
During the meeting, the partners reviewed the progress of projects for the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Health Service of Ukraine, the Ministry for Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The projects make these institutions better prepared to prevent and respond to large-scale cyber threats.
At the same time, the partners discussed challenges that affect the implementation of cybersecurity projects. One of them is the increase in project costs during implementation. This is not limited to Sweden-funded projects and is a broader issue that requires attention from the Tallinn Mechanism donors, recipients and implementing partners.
Another important topic was the involvement of Swedish cybersecurity companies. The partners discussed possible grant programmes and other ways to deepen ties between the Ukrainian and Swedish cybersecurity sectors. Work in this area is already underway. There are several successful examples of cooperation between companies from both countries under the Tallinn Mechanism framework.
As a next step, TMPO proposed organising a webinar for Swedish cybersecurity companies together with relevant Swedish business associations. The session would introduce the Tallinn Mechanism Platform, help companies identify Ukrainian partners for consortiums, and provide an overview of available opportunities under the Tallinn Mechanism.
